Does father know best?
|
Elaine is a bright, studious young woman who was clearly headed for college. In fact she knew exactly what her major would be and where it would take her. She just wasn't headed to a college she wanted to attend.
Her father had received two degrees from a large - make that huge - state university. His experience there had been life-changing and he was devoted to the university. So it followed that if it was good for him it would be good for his daughter.
Not really. The dad is a gregarious, hail-fellow-well-met sort.. He has an extensive network of friends and associates and is in a profession that depends on verbal skills. He is very much a people person and enjoys meeting people and socializing.

Elaine is not. Her About U Report reveals a quiet, though not shy, individual who prefer serenity as contrasted with hubbub. Rather than an extensive network of friends she preferred a deeper relationship with fewer people.
Dad, who was present during Elaine's About U Report feedback, began to understand that his daughter's usual behavior and needs were different that his. And so the plans were changed. Elaine is now doing quite well in a small private college, and dad not only delights in his daughter's success but also realizes that she is a unique individual with her unique perspectives.
